  • Best decision we made Contacting Captain Tyler. We spoke several times over the phone at which time he game up with a plan to assist us with the things we needed the most help with. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind and professional. He helped us with taking the boat off the trailer, navigating to the channel, understanding buoys, best safety practices etc. in addition he shared a few apps that would help us navigate both the ocean and the Intercoastal waterway.   • I have been boating most of my life and thought that I knew it all. The problem was that I have done all of my boating up north on lakes where tides, sandbars and Chanel markers didn’t exist. Taking a lesson from Tyler has made my boating experience in the Intracoastal a whole lot more enjoyable and informative. Learning how to properly drive my boat has also made my wife a lot happier as well. Just because you can afford the boat doesn’t mean you know how to operate it. Maybe if everyone took a lesson from Tyler the waters would be a whole lot safer.

This course is very hands-on and is a great way to ensure you understand the rules of the road when navigating around the Wrightsville Beach-Intracoastal-Cape Fear area. Captain Tyler is a great teacher. He is very organized, patient and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of boating, boat maintenance, marine navigation and safety. We would highly recommend!

  • Tyler is awesome!! I’ve spent a lot of time on boats over the years but when I got pregnant I realized it was probably good to know more than just how to throw an anchor. Yes I could have learned from my husband or family but I really wanted to do it right. I told Tyler to teach me as if I had never been on a boat before and he was super kind and patient. Need I mention my lesson took place during a heat wave. He never rushed me along. Whether you are a total beginner, experienced but maybe not with the intracoastal waterway, or just looking to brush up on your skills I can’t recommend Carolina Boating School highly enough!!!! Well worth every penny to boat with confidence on the waters these days!

  • I had a three hour lesson with Tyler to learn to drive and dock our boat. Prior to the day of the lesson, I had no experience driving or docking, but only limited time taking the wheel here and there to steer. By the end of the lesson I could comfortably drive, turn, and dock the boat. Before going out on the water, Tyler took the time to patiently cover topics pertaining to boater safety, including weather, wind, tides, and channel markers. He also took the time to point out and explain key features of my boat, including navigation and anchor lights, gps indicators, and the function of the bilge pump. The lesson was definitely money well spent!
